Personal, Social Health Education

The PHSE and Citizenship programme is an integral part of school life, helping the children to gain the knowledge, skills and understanding which they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. Our work has been acknowledged by the Healthy Schools programme. We use the SEAL programme to support our PSHE teaching and the school holds the “Healthy Schools” accreditation.

We encourage the children to learn to respect themselves and others through the curriculum and through after school activities. Our School Council gives the children the opportunity to elect representatives to discuss issues such as playtimes, homework and bullying. The children learn about their rights and responsibilities through class discussions and through a weekly discussion in Key Stage assemblies. Classes organise fund raising activities which include the annual charity stalls at the end of the Summer Term when every Key Stage 2 class runs a variety of activities for other children to try. Another popular event is making and selling healthy fruit snacks.

French

Children in Key Stage Two are taught French. The school uses a specialist French teacher to deliver the main curriculum but all teachers will engage in informal French teaching. Lessons are fun and motivate children to join in with French speaking using songs, games, role play and stories.
